Gordon Ramsay Anchovy Dip Recipe – A Bold and Savory Appetizer

Gordon Ramsay Anchovy Dip recipe

Gordon Ramsay’s Anchovy Dip is a savory, creamy dip made with anchovies, garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice, blended into a smooth, flavorful mixture. The anchovies provide a deep umami taste, balanced by bright acidity and a velvety texture. This dip pairs beautifully with crusty bread, crudités, or as a spread for sandwiches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (2 oz) anchovy fillets, drained
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • ¼ cup crème fraîche or sour cream (for a creamy texture)
  • 1 teaspoon capers, rinsed and chopped (optional, for extra depth)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Base:

  1. Mash the anchovies – Using a fork, mash the anchovies in a bowl until they form a paste-like consistency.
  2. Sauté the garlic – In a small pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, just until fragrant (avoid browning).

Combine the Ingredients:

  1. Mix in the flavors – In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed anchovies, garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.
  2. Add the creamy elements – Mix in the softened butter and crème fraîche (or sour cream) until smooth and well combined.
  3. Incorporate olive oil – Slowly drizzle in the remaining tablespoon of olive oil while stirring to create a silky texture.

Adjust and Finish:

  1. Season to taste – Add black pepper and capers if using. Adjust with more lemon juice if needed.
  2. Garnish and serve – Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately or let sit for 10 minutes for the flavors to meld.
