Gordon Ramsay’s Cauliflower Cheese is a baked cauliflower dish smothered in a creamy, cheesy béchamel sauce, often topped with extra cheese and breadcrumbs for a crispy finish. It is perfect as a side dish or a comforting main course.

  • 1 large cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • ½ cup Gruyère or Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional, for depth)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs (for topping, optional)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Extra cheese for extra crispiness

Instructions

Cook the Cauliflower:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil the cauliflower – In a pot of salted water, cook the cauliflower for 5 minutes until just tender. Drain well and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce:

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in flour – Stir for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
  3. Slowly add milk – Whisk continuously until smooth and thickened.
  4. Add cheese, mustard, and nutmeg – Stir until the sauce is creamy and fully melted.

Assemble and Bake:

  1. Place cauliflower in a baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over it.
  2. Sprinkle with extra cheese and breadcrumbs for a crispy topping.
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Serve and Enjoy:

  1. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
