  • ½ cup port wine (or red wine, or orange juice for non-alcoholic)
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise (optional but adds depth)
  • ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional, for warmth)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for extra richness)

For Garnish & Serving

  • Extra orange zest
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Cranberries

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine cranberries, sugar, orange zest, and orange juice.
  2. Stir in port wine, cinnamon stick, and star anise.
  3. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries start to burst (about 5 minutes).

Step 2: Reduce and Thicken

  1. Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add grated ginger and honey (if using), then stir well.
  3. Remove the cinnamon stick and star anise.

Step 3: Serve or Store

  1. Let the sauce cool slightly before serving.
  2. Garnish with extra orange zest and a pinch of cinnamon for a festive touch.
