Gordon Ramsay Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Gordon Ramsay Mashed Potatoes

Gordon Ramsay’s Mashed Potatoes are creamy, flavorful, and ultra-smooth, thanks to high-quality potatoes, warm cream, and butter. His method includes gently simmering the potatoes, ricing them for a fine texture, and incorporating warm dairy to create the ultimate mash.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream (or whole milk for a lighter version)
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for warmth)

For Garnish & Serving

  • Fresh chives or parsley, chopped
  • Extra butter for drizzling
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Boil the Potatoes

  1. Place peeled and chopped potatoes in a pot of cold, salted water.
  2. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat and cook for 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and let them sit for 1-2 minutes to remove excess moisture.

Step 2: Warm the Cream and Butter

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream, butter, and garlic over low heat until the butter melts.
  2. Remove the garlic before adding to the potatoes (if used).

Step 3: Mash the Potatoes

  1. Pass the potatoes through a potato ricer or mash with a hand masher for a smooth texture.
  2. Slowly incorporate the warm cream mixture, stirring until fully absorbed.
  3. Season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg (if using).

Step 4: Serve and Garnish

  1. Transfer to a serving dish and top with extra butter and fresh herbs.
  2. Serve hot alongside roasted meats, vegetables, or gravy.
