Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole

Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole

Cheesy hamburger potato casserole is a baked comfort dish made with thinly sliced potatoes layered with cooked ground beef, onions, and a creamy cheese sauce. It’s similar to scalloped potatoes but with an extra meaty twist. The combination of beef and potatoes makes it filling, while the gooey melted cheese adds richness to every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef

  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 can (10 oz) cream of mushroom soup

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil

  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the beef mixture – In a skillet, melt butter and cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.

  • Add onion and garlic – Stir in onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and translucent.

  • Prepare the sauce – Mix in cream of mushroom soup, milk, and seasonings. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.

  • Layer the potatoes – In a greased baking dish, arrange half the sliced potatoes at the bottom.

  • Add beef mixture – Spread half the beef sauce over the potatoes.

  • Top with cheese – Sprinkle a mix of cheddar and mozzarella over the first layer.

  • Repeat layers – Add remaining potatoes, beef mixture, and finish with more cheese on top.

  • Bake until tender – Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45–50 minutes, removing the foil in the last 10 minutes for a golden top.

  • Serve and enjoy – Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
