Healthy Pumpkin-Banana Applesauce Bread Recipe

Healthy Pumpkin-Banana Applesauce Bread

This bread is a nutritious twist on classic pumpkin bread. Instead of depending on refined sugar and excess fat, it uses natural sweetness from bananas and applesauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 23 tablespoons milk (if needed)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven – Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease a loaf pan.
  • Step 2: Mash and mix wet ingredients – In a large bowl, mash the bananas, then add pumpkin puree, applesauce, honey, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Step 3: Combine dry ingredients – In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and spices.
  • Step 4: Mix wet and dry together – Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Step 5: Adjust batter texture – Add milk if needed; the batter should be thick but easy to pour.
  • Step 6: Pour into pan – Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top evenly.
  • Step 7: Bake to perfection – Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Step 8: Cool before slicing – Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then move to a wire rack to cool completely.
